Draft 4

Dear Erin,

How's your studies? I hope you are fine in Australia. I would like to tell you about the recent riot. We know Singapore is usually a very peaceful place, but there's a huge riot that scares modern Singaporeans.

There is a Little India Riot that happened in Little India, on a road near the famous restaurant The Banana Leaf Apollo. The newspaper wrote that a foreign van driver had drove over an Indian that was crossing the road, It said that the driver couldn't see him and ran over him without knowing. After that, people started to gather and fought with the driver. Within minutes, they argued and fought. They even flip the van over. It was a messy chaos. Just thinking about it made me shiver with fear like a person who is afraid of the dark.

The riot had caused the place to have a temporary ban of alcohol drinking. They also hit the policemen who were trying to stop them! Could you actually believe it?

I hope there will not be anymore race riots happening in Singapore. See you in a month's time!

Love,
Celia

Story Of A Choker

Story Of A Choker
Draft 3

"Mother, what is that on your neck?" Little 10-year-old Stephanie asked as she stared at me.
"This, my child, is my mother's choker. It's an antique Victorian choker that has been passed down for generations. One day, you will have it when you grow older." My current owner, Maggie, said.

I am a choker, that has been passed down for 4 years since Maggie's grandmother bought me from the black market. I am old enough to be called as an antique as I am already a century old. I am created in Britain 1887. I have a picture of a young maiden and black beads decorating my black body. Maggie's grandmother have admired my elegance and paid me for 50 pounds (around S$104).

"What is this? A necklace?" Maggie's grandmother, Victoria, asked.
"Young maiden, this is no necklace, this is a choker. Would you want one of these?" The seller explained. Immediately, Victoria chose me as her choice. She opened her purse and gave the seller 50 pounds. I was like a excited kangaroo jumping around! I was wrapped with newspaper in that time.

Well, that was in the past. I had great memories with Victoria, but her illness was pulling her to death. Victoria soon gave birth to a daughter, she passed me to her daughter when her daughter was 17. After that, she passed away peacefully. Her daughter, as well, took care of me very well, she brought me to school every single day, during proms and graduation. She wore me every time, everyday and also pass me to Maggie.

On Stephanie's 17th birthday, Maggie gave her me. I was proud and happy since all my owners have treated me well, I thought might as well Stephanie will take good care of me, but I was wrong. Ever since, Stephanie had never polished me, wear me, and have even threw me on the floor hard till the picture of the young maiden got a crack!

After a few weeks of suffering, Maggie came to Stephanie's room to clean up. Her room was a huge mess. Her clothes piling up in a corner, trash covering me, it was a horrible sight. Maggie, starts to clean up by throwing the trash into a big black plastic trash bag. She didn't seem to see me and also threw me in without noticing.

After a few hours, I was left out cold in the dark. I felt lost, how could Maggie threw me away along the trash without noticing?! Even though I'm complaining, I could not move nor speak. And so, I stayed outside out cold for a week. Then, an elderly man with a mustache came to search through trash bin. Soon, he was staring at me for a while as I stared back at him. Then, he reached out his hand and grabbed me and a few companions along with me. He stuffed us into his hand-carry bag and began to travel back. I was confused, where would he bring me to?

Soon after, the old man brought me back to his workshop. He seemed to be a jeweler, he placed me on the table,  and started to work on me. He polished, replaced the glass of the picture. "Daddy!!" a young girl running towards her working father. She had deep brown eyes, wavy brown hair and was wearing a black dress. "What is this choker? This is so pretty!! Can I have it?" the young girl asked. The father passed me to her. She had a very beautiful smile. Smiling widely, she immediately put me around her neck. Since then, I had great memories and the little girl took me as if I'm her most precious jewelry.

Struggles and how I overcame them

Draft 3

In primary six, PSLE is one of the most important exams in Singapore. I was in the classroom and studying hard. At home, I have to study as well because of the stress given by my parents. They wanted me to go to a good secondary school. I tried as hard as I could but I just couldn't get the formula into my brain. Every thrice a week, I need to go to tuition for my main three weak subjects: English, Mathematics and Science. I just find Mathematics and Science very hard to understand.

Mathematics is just remembering the formula and the method to do while Science is remembering concepts and understanding how to write the main points of the question. I just don't get that! Since primary five, Mathematics and Science are the subjects I have the least interest in. I tried so hard but I just could not get any of the formula or the understandings. Due to that, my stress for both subjects starts to pile up, I couldn't concentrate in lessons. One time, I failed my Mathematics exam in SA1, I burst into tears as I couldn't get the marks I wanted and was expected to. I felt so depressed at that part of time and my thoughts played both the devil and angel. Then, my Mathematics teacher, Miss Png, encouraged me by teaching me slowly step by step. I slowly got more confident of my answers as I get more correct answers.

Soon, PSLE was coming ahead. I was so nervous, I started to have goosebumps. I was a frightened kitten, dreaming of the worst. English, Mother Tongue and Science went smoothly for me. For the Mathematics exam, paper one went smoothly. I could complete all of them in time given. For paper two, I realized all question are all similar to the ones that were taught by Miss Png! I was able to finish all of them. Every single question done neatly and fast. I was so happy and I could actually go to cloud nine!

After the whole exam were over, we had a lot of fun including learning journeys to the Zoo, East Coast Park and etc. We were also allowed to use our phones in class during lessons! My class played "Stress", it's a game using UNO cards to play. You have to list out the numbers according to ascending or descending order. If both piles of cards have the same number, you have to say "Stress!" to win. The one who finishes his or her cards will win. I played and had so much fun. I won so many times when I play with my classmates! After all, this game requires speed to play.

On PSLE result day, I sat there anxiously, I was so nervous for my result. I'm like a monkey who couldn't sit properly. My expectations from my parents was getting 220, instead i gotten 16 marks lower. I was devastated, I couldn't even go my dream school, Anderson Secondary School, which the aggregate was 246. So when I choose my choices, I chose Chong Boon as one of my choices. And guess what, I gotten into Chong Boon! I think getting into Chong Boon is a good choice as it's near my house and I have a couple of ex-classmates from the same secondary school as me. Although I'm the only girl from my primary school to get into Chong Boon. I like the school so much!

Dear Erin,

How's your studies? I hope you are fine in Australia. I would like to tell you about the recent riot. We know Singapore is usually a very peaceful place, but there's a huge riot that scares modern Singaporeans. It's as chaotic as the Maria Hertogh race riot which happened in 1950.

The Little India Riot had caused the place to have a temporary ban of alcohol drinking. The riot is about a driver from a foreign company had drove past an Indian. That's where it started the riot. Not only the passerby people started to hit each other, they also hit the policemen who were trying to stop them! They also turn the police car over the street! There was chaos everywhere in Little India. Could you actually believe it? I was like a prey running away from my predator, it was terrifying.

I hope there will not be anymore race riots happening in Singapore. I'm so excited like Tigger jumping around, to see you in a month's time! Bye bye!

Love,
Celia

Movie Review

-Title of the Movie:
The Legend of Hercules

-Describe the most exciting/memorable part of the movie. Why do you like it?
I like the part where Hercules fought with King Amphitryon as he was avenging for his mother, Queen Alcmene, who was stabbed by King Amphitryon with her own dagger. I like it as Hercules is avenging for his mother who loved him dearly and Hebe who was his lover.

-If you could rewrite one of the part of the movie, which part would it be and why? How would you like to rewrite it?
I wouldn't rewrite any part of the movie as it was perfect. I think the storyboard and the script was satisfying. That's why I did not want to rewrite any part of the movie.

-List 3 new words that you have picked up from watching the movie.
Touching
Violent
Awesome

Kellan Lutz as Hercules

Gaia Weiss as Hebe
